Luggage: As kids get older, your options expand and their independence grows

Roller suitcases with a long angled pull are great for our twins.

As our twins continue to grow, luggage options for them also changes. Gone are the days of carrying all the bags, ensuring you have diaper bags and all their snacks in your bag. Not checking bags becomes a lot easier.

When we decided to take our twins to London for spring break when they were in Kindergarten, we decided to purchase carry on roller boards for the twins. Except these were different from the roller boards that us adults carry. They have an angled pull cord, four wheels, and a foot rest if one of the kids is too tired to pull themselves. The angled pull cord makes it much easier.

While these carry ons are slightly smaller than the average carry on, they do have plenty of space for kid sized clothing, again making it easier for you to not have to check bags.

When you pair it with regular school backpacks, our twins now have plenty of space for all their clothes, tablets, books, crafts projects, snacks, water bottles and even a toy or two.

We’ve had good luck introducing new luggage options to our twins and using it as a way for them to gain additional independence. Having them be responsible for what they want to pack in their backpacks or even some of their clothes. They also typically want to hold their bags since they are theirs.

Just another way that traveling with little people can make them better people and more independent kids.
